factor.020 ensuring safe bridges and quay walls in Amsterdam
Spread across Amsterdam are 1,800 bridges and 600km of quay walls for which the city of Amsterdam is responsible. Of these, 830 traffic bridges and 205km are in such poor condition that they require immediate replacement. However, they are vital links in the urban network and, therefore, represent a major challenge.
Safe bridges and embankments are essential to the accessibility of the city of Amsterdam. In order to guarantee this for current and future generations, it has been agreed that 20 bridges and 5km of embankment will be tackled each year. The Bridges and Quayside Walls Programme (PBK) was established for this purpose. The aim of this programme, together with internal and external chain partners, is to accelerate the work by a factor 20. This not only means renovating at a much faster pace, but also, for example, speeding up the process of updating information on existing objects, developing life-long measures and implementing safety measures more quickly in the event of calamities.
The preparation of this large-scale renewal is in the hands of TAUW with partners AnteaGroup and WSP. Under the name factor.020 we will be working for the next 10 years on the conditioning studies, the design, the environmental management and the supervision of the contractor during the implementation. To guarantee the knowledge, capacity and flexibility for this complex project, TAUW partners with AnteaGroup and WSP.
